The 2010 Air Safari was a huge success in raising the profile of Flying New Zealand and its member clubs.

Not only did we have locals participating but also a considerable number of entrants were from overseas locations including USA, PNG, Brunei, Australia, Germany, Scotland and Britain.

Participating clubs benefited from the marketing that was done prior and post event but also financially from the Air Safari meals etc at stopovers.  A number of the clubs also benefited from the utilisation of club aircraft on the event.

Networking of club members with fellow pilots of mixed experience and career paths was one of the highlights of Air Safari 2010.  Many new friendships were forged and have developed further.  It has promoted joint club activities with a number of clubs organizing their own mini safaris.

At the completion of the Air Safari 2010, participants were canvassed to gauge their support for another safari and at what time interval.  The greatest number of respondents indicated three years.  Further to that we asked what improvements they would like to see in future events.  From this feedback the subcommittee has formulated a route and timetable that incorporates a number of these recommendations.  We have approached clubs on the proposed route to ascertain their support for the safari visiting their facilities.  We have had overwhelming support from the clubs with many thrilled at being included on the proposed route.  This includes support for the Safari to visit RNZAF Base Auckland for lunch. Masterton will host the start of the Air Safari 2013 and Motueka the finish, timed for the Omaka Air Show 2013. The Flying New Zealand Young Eagles program will be the main beneficiary of Air Safari 2013.
