2014 -2015 COMPETITIONS

Flying NZ holds five Regional Rallies in November each year. The Flying NZ National Championships are held in February of the following year.

Nineteen separate competitions are competed at the Regional Rallies. Winning an event at the Regional Rally qualifies a competitor to enter the same event at the National Championships.

Wildcard competitions are also held at the National Championships. The winners of two of the wildcard competitions, the Sir Francis Boys Cup and G M Spence Trophy, also qualify to enter that event in the National Championships.

Four additional competitions are held at the National Championships including Streamer Cutting and the Gloucester Challenge Precision Navigation competitions. See the Competition Rule Book for details.

Wildcard Competitions 2015
All competition entries are now closed.

All affilliated aero club members could enter as many of the competitions as they wish. Please enter in your order of preference. If there are more entries than places available, places will be allocated by ballot.

Accepted entrants were advised before Christmas.

National Championships 2015
The 2015 National Championships are also being hosted by the Auckland Aero Club at Whitianga from February 25th until March 1st 2015.

Wings Competition Team

The annual Wings Competitions are held in February or March, in turn in New Zealand or Australia. In 2015 they will be held in Australia.

The Wings competitions are:
  • Spot Landing
  • Forced Landing
  • Aerobatics
  • Three ship Formation
The Flying NZ Executive appoints two selectors to choose the team members each year. To be considered for selection a potential team member will:
  • Be available to be a Team member and travel to Australia for one week, or attend for the duration of our National Championships when in New Zealand, as applicable.
  • Be prepared to meet the cost of obtaining an Australian licence or validation. (Aus. years)
  • Meet the license conditions of the Wings rules.
  • Be the winner of the applicable competition at the previous years Flying NZ National Championships or
  • Be a winner or highly placed in the applicable competition at the current seasons Regional Competitions.
  • Is a Team player, keen to represent New Zealand.
