Located on Kapiti Road near the sandy beaches of Paraparaumu, 50km north of Wellington,  the Kapiti Districts Aero Club and Kapiti Air Academy are home to the fleet of 13 aircraft operated by both organisations.  Aircraft include Cessna 152s, a Cessna 172 and Cessna 182s  (the Cessna 172 and the 182T are available for air charter and scenic work under Part 135), a Grumman Cheetah, Piper Cherokee, a Piper Cub, and a Hughes 300 helicopter.  A twin-engine Partenavia provides multi-engine and multi-engine IFR training and is available for Part135 operations.  Paraparaumu Airport has superb weather, sealed and grass runways and close proximity to a variety of training areas.  Trial, scenic and aerobatic flights are a speciality.  The Kapiti Air Academy operates in conjunction with Whitireia Polytechnic providing a full-time, Certificate In Aviation course culminating in a Commercial Pilot Licence and the Advanced Certificate in Aviation course that includes Instructor rating, Multi-engine Instrument Rating or Helicopter CPL training. With over 200 members and the Air Academy student population, there is plenty of activity on the Kapiti coast.
